Clayton Donaldson said Brentford were pleased to be in the FA Cup with Budweiser Third Round draw.
The Bees booked a spot in the pot with a 1-1 draw against Bradford City and will face the npower League Two side in a replay later this month to decide the tie.
Clayton put Brentford ahead in the first half but Bradford’s direct style yielded results and they equalised with 20 minutes remaining.
“We are pleased to be in the draw, definitely,” said the striker.
“That was the main objective and if we have to take it to a replay, so be it.
“As long as we are in the pot, we are happy.
“It was a tough game.
“Bradford are a tricky team, we thought it would be an ugly game and that’s how it turned out.
“It was disappointing not to win after being 1-0 up but a draw was probably the right result.
“Bradford can play ugly football but they can also pass it.
“They disrupted us all game, we wouldn’t get our flow.
“We are still in so we have to take that.”
Clayton scored at the end of the first half when he picked up a loose ball and smashed home.
He could have had a second after the break but for a fine save by Bradford goalkeeper Matt Duke.
Clayton, who grew up near Bradford’s Valley Parade ground, now known as the Coral Windows Stadium, said he wanted to shut up the home fans who were giving him stick and did so with his goal.
He said his friends and family were in the crowd so it was a special night for him.
“There was only really one chance in the first half and it fell perfectly for me,” he said.
“I wanted to hit it hard and low
“I knew straight away it was going in.
“The keeper came out and left a big gap.
“The home fans were giving me stick most of the game.
“I heard a few things at corners, they were chirping at me.
“I wanted to get a goal and show them.
“I scored and I just faced them.
“It was to shut them up.
“All my friends and family were here.
“They haven’t seen me play for a while as I’m based in London.
“It was extra special that they could come and see me.
“I am a Bradford boy and have watched games in the past so this was a bit special.
“For the chance in the second half, I turned the player and focused on hitting the target.
“It hit the keepers face; he said he didn't know where it was going.
“It was unlucky.
“I think if that had gone in, that would have been us.”
Bradford made a triple substitution on the hour mark and fought back to equalise and force a replay.
Clayton said he was confident Brentford would win the second tie.
“Their substitutions made the game,” said the striker.
“They got a lift and you could see straight away they put pressure on us.
“Eventually they broke through.
“They hit the post as well.
“We will probably be the happier team.
“We are happy to be in the draw and hopefully we can put it right at home.
“We have every confidence we can see it through at home.
“Bit Bradford are a good team do it will be another tricky game for us.”
