Clayton Donaldson said Brentford deserved their win over Milton Keynes Dons.
The striker scored twice in a 3-2 win over the Buckinghamshire side and he said the Brentford squad were “over the moon” with the result.
He said it showed what progress Brentford had made since the start of the season.
“Everyone is over the moon,” said Clayton, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“That result shows how far we have come this year.
“I think we deserved it.
“We were up for the fight and the battle.
“We were 1-0 down and 2-1 down and to come back and win the game in the way we did, you can’t ask for more than that.
“MK Dons are a very good side; they made it difficult for us.
“We couldn’t get out of the blocks in the first ten minutes, they passed it around and they hurt us.
“It was a good test, to come away victorious shows how far we have come.”
Clayton scored his first in the first half, slotting home from close range after Harry Forrester had danced through.
His season was from equally close range, following up after a Marcello Trotta shot had been saved.
“I said to the lads, they are the goals strikers cherish,” said Clayton.
“I prefer those goals.
“They are the best ones.
“It’s more satisfying to get goals like that as I don’t usually score goals like that; I need to bring that to my game.
“I was happy to be in the right place at the right time.
“Harry did great work for the first; he caused them problems all day.
“He cut inside and I could see the ball was going to come across and I gambled.
“That’s my instinct, to get in the box and gamble.
“For the second, I could see Marcello Trotta was about to get a shot off.
“The first thing in my head was to get the re-bound.
“The keeper made a good save but I got it, the defender fell asleep and I was happy to score.”
Clayton took his tally for the season to 13 with the brace, which means he has already surpassed his tally for the 2011/12 season of 11.
He said he was full of confidence at the moment but admitted he did not know how many he had scored recently – seven goals in eight games.
He added the team spirit in the camp was superb and that would help Brentford continue their push towards the top of League One.
“The togetherness in the team can be felt when you walk in to the changing room,” said the striker.
“We are all supporting each other on and off the pitch.
“That’s crucial if you want to push up in the league.
“I don’t know how many I’ve scored recently; I just know I have scored quite a few in a row.
“I am happy to get on the score sheet and I want to keep that form up and get three points for Brentford.
“I was getting chances last year and not putting them away.
“I am putting them away now.
“It’s a confidence thing and I am on a roll.”
