Brentford Women’s FC fell to back-to-back league defeats for the first time this season to lose more ground at the top of the Greater London Women’s Football League Division One after a 4-2 loss to Clapham United on Sunday.
It was the home side who adapted best to the atrocious conditions on Clapham Common as they raced into a 4-0 lead before the break. Donya Wilson struck inside the opening two minutes before adding a second shortly after with a neat finish.
Bees goalkeeper Roxy Clarke then denied Wilson from the penalty spot but could do nothing as Carla Knighton added a third before Wilson completed her hat-trick late on in the first-half.
With nothing to lose, Ryan Peters side came out quickly after the break and pulled one back on the hour as Dana Johnson flicked home an inviting Amber Langston-Lloyd corner for her 12th of the season. Lauren Rabbitts further reduced the arrears shortly after but, despite intense late pressure, the home side held out to leave The Bees six points off the top two, but having played a game more.
Elsewhere, the Development Team’s clash with South London Laces at Lampton School fell foul of the weather. Both teams will be back in action next Sunday as the first-team head to Luton Town Development while the Development Team host league leaders London Academicals.
