Chris Long is looking forward to showing Brentford fans the best of what he can offer when the Sky Bet Championship season resumes after the international break.
The on loan Everton striker, who turned 20 last month, has scored four goals in nine appearances since joining Brentford in January.
Chris extended his stay in TW8 for a further month last week and, speaking to Bees Player, after signing said that he feels he still hasn’t reached his top form since joining.
Brentford go into the international break seventh in the table, just a point outside the play-off places, and Chris hopes that he and the club can push on once fixtures resume in April.
“I am delighted to sign for another month,” said Chris.
“I just want to keep doing well for the team.
“I have enjoyed my time here very much.
“The team are a very good bunch of lads and I like the manager, Mark Warburton, and David Weir and all the staff behind me.
“I don’t think that Brentford fans have seen the best of me yet.
“I hope that I can show my best after the international break and I hope I can keep going.
“We just have to see where we come at the end of the season but I think we are going to finish in a very good position.
“The club is still in a fantastic position and you wouldn’t have thought that Brentford would be in this position at the start of the season.
“We have been doing unbelievably so we just need to keep going.”
Brentford’s first game after the international break in against local rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Around 6,000 Brentford fans are expected to make the trip to the banks of the River Thames for the match.
Chris has experience of playing in high profile derbies from playing in Merseyside derbies at Everton but admits there will be something special about featuring in his debut first-team derby.
“I am looking forward to Brentford and Fulham,” said Chris.
“I have played in a lot of derbies for Everton against Liverpool.
“I am delighted to be involved in a derby, and especially a London derby.
“A first-team derby will be different from a lower age group derby.
“Hopefully I can take it in my stride, get a goal and get the win.”
Chris is currently with the England Under-20 set-up preparing for two friendlies against Mexico and the USA.
The striker has played at every age group from Under-16 to Under-20, scoring five goals in 13 matches, but admits an England call-up is still something very special.
Chris will be joined in the Young Lions’ squad by Brentford right-back Moses Odubajo who received his first international call-up last week.
The 20-year-old thinks it is great for both Brentford and Moses that he has been called up following, what in Chris’ opinion, has been a great season for the right-back.
“Representing your country is unbelievable to be honest,” said Chris.
“Every call up is the same and you get the same feeling.
“I just want to do my job and represent my country well.
“I think I am the only striker with form going into that squad to be honest.
“I just need to see what happens.
“It is good for the club and I am delighted for Moses.
“He fully deserves it and he has been phenomenal this season.”
