Chris Long said as soon as he heard there was a chance to move to Brentford on loan from Everton he wanted to make the switch.
The 19-year-old striker joined The Bees on loan from Everton yesterday, Tuesday January 20.
He signed a Youth Loan deal that will keep him at Griffin Park initially until February 21.
“I heard about a week ago there was a chance to come down,” said the striker, speaking to Bees Player yesterday.
“As soon as I heard I wanted to come.
“I am grateful that I am here.
“I was made up when I heard Brentford wanted me.
“I was excited and I wanted to come.”
Chris has been on Everton’s books since he was five-years-old, working his way through The Toffees’ Academy.
He made his Everton debut earlier this season, when he played the final 11 minutes of a Europa League tie against FC Krasnodar as a substitute.
Chris is the latest Everton youngster to come to Brentford on loan.
Left back Jake Bidwell joined The Bees from Everton on a series of loan deals before making the move permanent and Adam Forshaw, sold to Wigan Athletic in the summer, followed the same path.
The Bees have also taken Conor McAleny on loan in the past.
Chris said he looked up to Bidwell as a player in the older Academy age groups progressing and also knows Brentford Assistant Manager David Weir.
“Everyone at Everton has good things to say about Brentford,” said Chris.
“I am glad I am here and hopefully I can do the same as Jake Bidwell and Adam Forshaw.
“David Weir coached me when he was Everton Reserve Team Manager.
“I am pleased to be with the First Team here and hopefully I can kick on.
“He looked after me at Everton and I hope he will look after me here.
“I looked up to Jake because he made his debut at a young age.
“He is a good player.”
Chris described himself as a quick goal scorer but said he knew he had to wait for his chance.
Brentford currently have Andre Gray in the main striking role and he has scored eight goals in his last 12 Sky Bet Championship games.
“I am a striker that scores goals,” said Chris.
“I am pacey.
“I have scored goals at reserve level this season, even though we haven’t had many games.
“Andre Gray is doing well at the moment so I know I will have to bide my time.
“I want to work hard and do well for the team.
“I just want the team to get results and hope to get my chance.”
This will be Chris’ second spell on loan after time at Milton Keynes Dons last season.
He said this was the next stage in his career and he hoped to start it when The Bees took on Norwich at Carrow Road on Saturday.
“It was good at MK,” said Chris.
“I went at a tricky period when they weren’t getting results.
“I was happy to get some game time.
“I am looking forward to getting going at Brentford and getting some game time.
“This is a different environment and I am looking forward to kicking on.
“I have scored a lot of goals against Norwich for Everton Under-21s.
“It would be a great place to make my debut and hopefully I can score against them at First Team level as well.”
