Charlie Adams said Brentford’s Development Squad players would learn from the fact they dominated their Under-21 Professional Development League Two South game against Ipswich Town but did not win it.
The Bees were held to a 1-1 draw in Suffolk yesterday despite having complete control.
Charlie put Brentford ahead with a lob but more than a dozen chances came and went.
Ipswich then struck a late equaliser.
Charlie, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said Brentford were clearly the better side but needed to take more of their chances.
He said they would look to put that right next time.
“We were clearly the better side,” said Charlie.
“We had lots of chances.
“We were comfortable when we were 1-0 up and we needed to defend better in the last 20 minutes.
“We had lots of chances, we needed to take them.
“We will move on to the next game and put it right.
“We should have been four or five up.
“But that is the way it goes, we will learn from it.”
The draw gave Brentford eight points from eight Under-21 Professional Development games this season, leaving them towards the bottom of the table.
Last season they finished fourth in the Under-21 Professional Development League Two South table and challenged for the title until the end of the season.
Charlie said there had been a change of emphasis this season with players going out on loan to improve in different environments rather than staying at Brentford to make the Development Squad stronger.
“The emphasis this year is about creating players to play First Team football,” he said.
“Ideally in Brentford’s First Team.
“Last year we won a lot of games but we didn’t break through.
“We have had players out on loan.
“That’s what we are trying to do this year.”
Charlie has stayed with The Bees this season and said not going out on loan was not a problem.
He said he thought he played well against Ipswich but admitted it had been a “slow” season.
He added that since Mark Warburton replaced Uwe Rösler as Brentford Manager he felt he was closer to adding to his one First Team appearance.
“I thought I did well,” said Charlie.
“We haven’t had a game for a while so considering that I thought I did OK.
“The season has been slow for me.
“I didn’t go out on loan which wasn’t a problem for me.
“I am always improving.
“I want to be as good as I can be.
“I think I am closer today.
“Since Mark Warburton took over I feel I am closer.
“The First Team play with more freedom and that suits me.
“There is a slight change from when Uwe was in charge, that was more structured.
“I feel I am doing well.”
Brentford have a run of games in the Under-21 Professional Development League coming up and Charlie said that would help all the players.
“The players that have gone out on loan have been lucky,” he said.
“They have had a consistent run of games.
“That is good for a player.
“If you have five good games in a row the gaffer might throw you in.
“But you have to play well.
“We are all working hard to get in the First Team.”
