Wolverhampton Wanderers narrowly missed out on the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs last year and their fans will be expecting Kenny Jackett’s side to challenge for promotion to the Premier League in 2015/16.
They finished on 78 points, which would have been enough in any previous second tier season to reach the knock out stages, but three points on the last day for Brentford and an inferior goal difference to Ipswich Town ensured they would finish seventh.
Four league wins from five games put them in third place at the first international break on August 30. Proving hard to beat, they drew a slew of games before their form nosedived in November, a month that yielded a single point.
Shaking off calls for his resignation in some quarters, Jackett steered his side to a ten match unbeaten run that took them to mid-February. From then on, they lost only four matches until May, which put them in contention for the Play-Offs.
However, defeats to Birmingham City and Middlesbrough allowed Brentford and Ipswich to claim the last two Play-Off places on the final afternoon.
Striker Benik Afobe proved an astute purchase from Arsenal at the turn of the year, his 13 goals in 21 games will give an indication of his potency for next season. Bakary Sako was Wolves top goalscorer with 15, forward Nouha Dicko grabbing 14 from 37 league matches.
Jackett is highly experienced at this level and his men will prove hard to beat, especially at Molineux, where they have only lost once in 2015.
