Rotherham United defied most predictions in 2014/15 and survived their first season back in the second tier. Manager Steve Evans was backed by owner Tony Stewart and his faith was paid off, The Millers finishing five points clear of relegated Millwall.
Their supporters’ nerves about making an immediate return to League One Rotherham United were not eased as they were deducted three points for fielding an ineligible player towards the end of the season.
The Millers played Derby County defender Farrend Rawson in the 1-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on 6 April, one day after the 18-year-old's loan had expired. Losing the three points meant Rotherham were one point above the Championship relegation zone with three matches remaining.
However two draws and a win in their final three games ensured Championship football at The New York Stadium.
Evans selected 42 players in the 46 league match campaign, with only relegated Bolton Wanderers (44) and relegated Blackpool (50) surpassing this total. Matt Derbyshire was The Millers top goalscorer with nine from 34 matches.
Evans has been busy already for the new campaign, signing Aidy White (Leeds United) and Joe Mattock (Sheffield Wednesday). Their potency up front will be key if they are to survive another season in the Championship.
