The Millers' second consecutive year in the Championship ended exactly as the first had done, surviving relegation by finishing just a single place above the bottom three.
They recruited heavily in the summer break, bringing eight new faces permanently into the dressing room at New York Stadium. Among them were Lee Camp [AFC Bournemouth], Aidan White [Leeds United], Emmanuel Ledesma [Middlesbrough] and Joe Newell [Peterborough United].
Two notable departures saw Kari Arnason switch to Swedish champions Malmo FF, while Danny Rowe left for Wycombe Wanderers following a successful loan spell.
Former Manchester United trainee Tom Thorpe and ex-West Ham defender Danny Collins also joined the squad in July. Tony Andreu [Norwich City], Farrend Rawson [Derby County] and Grant Ward [Tottenham Hotspur] all signed loan deals.
Early in the season Steve Evans left the manager's office along with assistant Paul Raynor, this after only nine league games that had yielded eight points. In October, Neil Redfearn became the new boss with the task of pulling United further up the table however, by the end of November, they were 23rd and three straight defeats followed into the Christmas period. Unlikely wins against Bolton Wanderers and Hull City gave the team hope before the New Year but it didn't last long and Redfearn left in February.
Neil Warnock began his new role on 11th February, picking up his first victory against Brentford at the end of the month. Three wins and a draw in March, then only two defeats in the remaining fixtures of the season ensured the team's survival.

The Manager
Ex-Everton defender Alan Stubbs signed for Rotherham just days after helping Hibernian to their first Scottish Cup win since 1902, after beating Rangers 3-2 in the Final at Hampden Park.
He began his playing days as a centre-back for Bolton Wanderers before moving on to Celtic, Sunderland and had two spells at Goodison Park. He retired in 2008 to take up a coaching role with The Toffees and Hibs was his first role in management.
