Charlton will commence the 2015/16 season with an attempt to improve the previous campaign that can be best described as wholly inconsistent. They are now the only Championship team in London outside the belt of three West London clubs (Brentford, Fulham, and Queens Park Rangers) following Millwall's relegation to League One.
Bob Peeters, a former Belgium international, was installed as manager after Jose Riga’s short stint the previous season as Head Coach. They got their season off to a flyer, with the first league defeat at eventual Champions AFC Bournemouth coming in mid-October. However, the winter period for Addicks fans was a barren one, with a three-month winless run starting from November.
Their season was kick-started by a 3-0 win over Brentford in February. By that time, Peeters had been replaced by Guy Luzon after 25 games as Charlton boss. The win started a run of seven league wins out of nine. However, they gained only one more win from the final seven games.
Angola international Igor Vetokele finished as The Addicks top league goalscorer with eleven, with Charlton hoping for an increased tally by the 23-year-old in 2015/16. Midfielder Jordan Cousins was considered The Addicks best performer last season, making 44 league appearances and scoring three goals. His contract ends in 12 months so Charlton fans will be hoping the Club can persuade him to sign a new deal.
After winning League One in 2012 with a record points total, they have since failed to mount a serious challenge to return to top flight football, where they left in 2007.
