Brighton and Hove Albion will be hoping for a more successful 2015/16 after a turbulent season at The Amex. New manager Sami Hyypia was appointed on a three-year contract in June 2014, with The Seagulls looking to build on their Play-Off Semi-Final defeat to Derby County.
Hyypiä invested in Will Buckley (Sunderland, £2.5m), Chris O'Grady (Barnsley, £2m) plus goalkeeper David Stockdale arrived from Fulham, among 13 new signings. Despite picking up two wins in the first four games, only two further victories until the turn of the year tells its own story, with owner Tony Bloom accepting Hyypiä’s resignation on 22 December.
Former Brentford defender Chris Hughton was appointed his successor, with the new man winning four of the first six games in charge, one of those The Seagulls FA Cup Third Round victory at Griffin Park.
However, the season tailed off badly with only one win in the last 11 league matches for a disappointing 20th position. One of Brighton’s problems was up front, with their top goalscorer - midfielder and ex-Brentford loanee Joao Carlos Teixeira – scoring six goals from midfield.
Hughton will also be looking to improve his side’s home form – The Seagulls lost nine league matches at The Amex last season.
