Seth Owens' late header secured the win as Brentford's Youth Team opened their Under 18 Professional Development League Two South campaign with a 2-1 defeat of Millwall at Jersey Road.
The central-defender met Jeremiah Kamanzi's corner and guided into the far corner to give Jeremy Steele's side a deserved opening day success.
Tom Field had given The Bees a 17th minute lead from the spot but that was cancelled out just after half-time by Ebere Eze before Owens settled matters with 13 minutes to go.
Injury meant that Jeremy Steele was without five members of his squad for the visit of The Lions who had done the double over Brentford last season.
15-year-old Joshua Bohui started up-front with 1st year scholars Robert Mensah, Owens, Reece Cole and Kamanzi also in the starting XI.
On an immaculate pitch at Jersey Road it was The Bees who settled the brighter even though Millwall created the best early chance as Alex Mulrooney-Skinner cut inside from the right and fed ex-Bee Mikael Ndjoli but he shot straight at Nik Tzanev from 8 yards.
Tom Field had Brentford's first chance of the game but his right footed shot was tame and straight at Max Goodman in the visitors goal.
From Goodman's goal kick Jamie Philpot raced clear but his attempted lob of Tzanev was easy for The Bees' keeper to claim.
Reece Cole shot straight at Goodman from 20 yards before Jeremy Steele's side took the lead from the spot: Bohui was upended by a Mulrooney-Skinner challenge and Field swept the ball past Goodman low to his right.
That goal settled Brentford and it should have been 2-0 moments later as Goodman dropped a Mensah cross at the feet of Bohui but Goodman recovered well to block his first effort and Bradley Clayton saw the rebound deflected over for the bar.
Bohui was causing all sorts of problems for the Millwall defence with his direct running and after another mazy dribble Zain Westbrooke saw a shot bravely blocked by Chris Parr.
As the half went on the game became more scrappy and more of a battle which suited The Lions and they began to create chances.
Gradi Milenge made a good block to deny Eze and from the resultant corner Philpot slashed a volley wide from eight yards at the back post.
James Brown had the next chance for Millwall but he fired wastefully over from 15 yards.
However, The Lions were not so wasteful four minutes into the second-half as Eze weaved his way through three challenges on the edge of the box before guiding his low finish back across Tzanev and into the bottom corner.
The Bees tried to respond instantly and Kamanzi dragged a shot wide before a smart one-two between Noah Chesmain and Philpott saw the Millwall striker flash a shot across the face of goal.
Owens headed wide from five yards from a wicked Kamanzi corner and Chesmain shot straight at Tzanev as the sides continued to trade chances.
The Bees were then dealt a blow as Tzanev was forced off injured with concussion following a brave dive at the feet of Ndjoli.
Kyron Farrell passed up a presentable chance shooting over from 12 yards and Courtney Senior pulled a shot wide from 18 yards before The Bees did get their noses back in front.
Kamanzi's whipped corner was met at the near post by Owens and the tall centre-back guided the ball past Goodman and into the far corner.
Following the goal Brentford settled into long spells of very comfortable possession with Westbrooke, Cole and Tony Guppy dominating the centre of midfield.
Clayton could have settled matters but, on the stretch, he could only turn Senior's cross straight at Goodman.
The Bees had one last glorious chance to settle matters as Clayton played Courtney Austin in one-on-one but Goodman was down quickly to smother The Bees' striker's low shot.
In the end it didn't matter as Brentford held on for the win to gain revenge for Millwall's two wins in the fixtures last season.
