Brentford’s run in the FA Youth Cup was ended by Reading at the Third Round stage.
Uche Ikpeazu scored twice and set up another and the Premier League side booked a spot in the last 32.
The Royals were just too experienced, strong and good for a Brentford team that never gave in.
The Bees had chances against their opponents, who are having a superb season, but conceded two goals late in the first half and could not recover.
Myles Hippolyte pulled one back from the penalty spot but Reading deservedly progressed, winning 5-1 in the end.
The Bees suffered the worst possible start, falling behind inside 90 seconds.
Ikpeazu, as powerful a striker as you will find at this level, bulldozed his way down the right and crossed, Brentford failed to clear and Aaron Kuhl lashed in from 20 yards.
That could have opened the floodgates but Brentford responded positively and were by no means overawed by their high-ranking opponents.
Reading are operating a Category One Football Academy and have the best record in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League while The Bees ply their trade in League Two South of the Professional Development League structure.
The gap in quality was apparent at times but not for long periods of the first half.
Montell Moore had an early shot blocked for The Bees and while Reading had chances, they did not dominate exclusively.
Tarique Fosu-Henry shot wide and Niall Keown, son of former England international Martin, missed the target when a corner was half cleared, before James Bransgrove made a good low save to deny Craig Tanner.
Brentford could have levelled when Michael Onovwigun sent 15-year-old Courtney Senior in behind the home defence, Reading goalkeeper Daniel Lincoln saved at his feet and Myles Hippolyte fired the loose ball over with the stopper stranded.
Lincoln kept out a low Senior shot and Moore shot wide as they game developed in to a decent cup tie.
But two goals at the end of the first 45 gave the half time scored an unjust feel and ended any suspense as to who would win.
Ikpeazu had a header well blocked by Lionel Stone but when the corner came in, Keown headed down and the striker smashed home.
It was three seconds before the break when Ikpeazu, who looked yards offside, collected a Jack Stacey pass and slotted home.
Senior could have pulled one back in between when he again got in behind from a Josh Stockwell pass and fired in a low shot but Lincoln got down superbly to turn it away.
The visitors had more of the play in the second half but Brentford defended resolutely.
Bransgrove saved well from Keown and Stefan Tomasevic superbly blocked a Tanner shot.
And The Bees had a lifeline with 20 minutes remaining.
Joe Maloney fed a ball through and Onovwigun was brought down by goalkeeper Lincoln.
A penalty was awarded and Hippolyte stroked it in to the net as Lincoln went the wrong way.
Hippolyte shot wide after Onovwigun and Senior combined to release home but Reading scored twice in a minute to end any lingering doubts.
First, Keown headed in a Tanner corner and then Shepherd Murombedzi scored from 15 yards, shooting across Bransgrove and in to the far corner.
Brentford should have been awarded another penalty late on when Senior was brought down by Bismark Amofah but this time the appeal was waved away when a spot kick would surely have also seen a red card.
But it would not have altered the result and when the final whistle was blown moments later, Reading progressed comfortably.
