A Cheyenne Faulkner wondergoal and strikes from Abigail Claringbold and a double from Kasey Clifford saw the Women’s B Team comfortably overcome Actonians Thirds at Bedfont Sports Club on Sunday.
The Bees extended their winning streak to five consecutive games as they put four past a strong Actonians side.
The hosts got off to a positive start as they came close a couple of times in the opening 10 minutes of the game.
The first chance came on five minutes when Abigail Claringbold found herself in space inside the box, the number nine unleashed a powerful shot, but her effort went just over the bar.
Charlotte Halpin came agonisingly close just moments later as her strike from 15 yards crashed against the bar.
After continuous pressure, the B Team eventually broke the deadlock on 19 minutes through a spectacular solo goal by Faulkner.
The number 18 picked up the ball deep into the visitor's half showing excellent dribbling ability as she weaved in and out of four defenders before slotting the ball through Actonians keeper, Saoirse Del Tufo.
The Bees were rampant and took confidence from this goal as they began playing some really nice football.
On 36 minutes they got their deserved second which came with a stroke of luck.
Halpin showed great desire down the right channel to work enough room to get a cross in the box, but Del Tufo seemed to have it covered as she came out to collect the ball.
However, the Actonains number one let the ball go through her allowing Claringbold to have an easy tap-in from point-blank range.
Despite the strong start from the hosts their opponents continued to work hard to find a way back into the game.
The away team pulled one back on 38 minutes following a brilliant strike from Antonia Cole.
The number 10 let fly from 25 yards out with her shot lobbing Sophie Boycott in the Brentford net.
Actonians went into the break possibly with a more positive mindset about the game after Cole’s goal, but any hope was quickly ruled out by Brentford captain Kasey Clifford.
On 48 minutes the Women’s B Team’s top scorer struck a free kick from 30 yards powerfully towards Del Tufo’s goal and despite the keeper getting a strong hand to the ball Clifford’s strike arrowed into the roof of the net.
The Bees went on to control the majority of the second half as Actonians never seeming to pose too much of a threat in attacking situations.
It was only a matter of time before the hosts got their fourth and final goal with Clifford once again proving how important she is to this team.
Lillie Elsbury was brought down inside the penalty area by Charlotte Callear with the referee deeming the challenge to be a foul and pointing to the penalty spot.
Clifford stepped up and confidently tucked her spot kick into the bottom left corner leaving Del Tufo with no chance, wrapping up a perfect day for her side.
Speaking after the win, Head Coach Tommy Ryan-Maynard said: “Very happy with the performance we got off to a fast start which is exactly what I asked for, the goals were all brilliant in their own way.
“It’s a fantastic way to end the year, we are in great form at the moment and I’m just looking for this to continue as we head into the second half of the season.
“This year has been a real success for the Women’s B Team, we have filtered through many players into the First Team which is one of our main aims and as a team ourselves we have been thriving.”
