There was disappointment for both Brentford Women's teams on Sunday at Lampton School as they conceded late goals to fall to defeat.
Ryan Peters' first-team were in John Greenacre Memorial Trophy action against Hackney Women and took an early lead as Janae Pine met Lisa Grant's inswinging corner to power home from close range. Mollie Holmes had a chance to make it 2-0 from the spot before the break but she sent her effort over the bar from 12 yards. That miss proved to be costly as Hackney, a place below The Bees in the league standings, levelled on the stroke of half-time: their striker breaking the offside trap and rounding Roxy Clark to tap home into an empty net. After an even second-half it was the visitors who grabbed the winner in the dying minutes, capitalising on a defensive slip to lash home, as they progressed to the Third Round.
The Development Team hosted Surrey Eagles for the second time in two weeks, this time in league action, and fell behind early on as Eagles broke the offside trap and slotted home. The Bees were level at the break as Gel Burgess kept her composure to round the goalkeeper and squeeze home from a tight angle. A cool finish from the edge of the box restored Eagles' advantage midway through the second-half but again Brentford responded, Julie Cartmell netting her second goal in as many games to level with five minutes to play. The Bees pressed for a winner but were caught out themselves in the final minute of stoppage time as an Eagles' defender was allowed to rise unchallenged to head home a lofted free-kick from six yards.
Next Sunday see the first team travel to Hampton and Richmond Borough in the Greater London Women's Football League while there is no game for the Development Team.
