A Chloe Logie masterclass ensured Brentford Women’s First Team left Bedfont Sports Centre with all three points in a thrilling spectacle against Denham United.
The Brentford forward grabbed all four goals for the team in an impressive result in the LSE Regional WFL Division One North.
After their impressive victory in the League Cup last weekend, Manager Karleigh Osborne wanted his team to carry their momentum into Sunday’s game against Denham and that they did.
The Bees started strongly with Logie showing the danger she possesses if given space around the penalty area. The number nine showed great skill on the left side of the box to get around Denham defender, Ella Greenwood, but her shot was easily saved by the opposition’s keeper.
The away side had their work cut out in the opening stages of the game with Brentford playing some brilliant football as they looked to gain a foothold in the match.
On 22 minutes the hosts eventually took the lead, and it was Logie with an excellent finish.
Left back Chloe Webb played a perfectly timed pass to the goal scorer who showed no hesitation as she ran onto the ball and smashed home from 10-yards out.
Brentford continued to press the Denham back line with the next chance coming just 10 minutes after the opener. Following some good work on the left flank from Webb, her cross to the back post found Nikki Saunders. The number 12 then found Sophie Troth whose volley was tipped over the bar by Zara Butt in the away team’s goal.
The Bees started the second half eager to put the game to bed and nearly went two up after left winger, Eleonora Cottrell, found Nadia Peters at the far post but her shot went just wide.
On 53 minutes the home team were awarded a penalty when Webb’s touch bounced onto Laura Cox’s arm leaving the referee with no choice but to point to the spot.
After winning the spot kick Webb stepped up to take the penalty but her shot, which went straight down the middle, was saved by Butt giving her team a lifeline in the game.
Just three minutes later the First Team made up for this missed opportunity and it was Logie at it again. The striker picked up the ball from 25-yards and unleashed a powerful strike which flew straight into the top corner, leaving Butt with no chance this time.
Despite seemingly being in control of the game, Denham got a goal back on 60 minutes. Jenny Nagle latched onto Lilly Hadrava’s clearance, as the Brentford keeper was forced to come off her line to deal with a crossfield ball, allowing the Denham striker to shoot into an empty net.
Following their goal, the visitors began playing with great confidence and nearly levelled the score line just a few minutes later. After being awarded a free kick from just outside the box, Amie Hewitt’s set piece crashed against the bar and the follow-up header from Lizzie Rose was saved exquisitely by Hadrava from point-blank range.
With Denham just beginning to get a foothold in the game, they were once again undone by Logie’s brilliance. The 17-year-old sealed her second hat-trick of the season on 74 minutes as she was first on scene to follow up Demi Edwards’ shot which proved too powerful for Butt to hold on to, allowing Logie to tap home from three-yards out.
Denham showed determination and resilience to continue to keep themselves in the game and just seven minutes later they made it 3-2 when Laura Cox found herself one on one with Hadrava and calmly placed the ball into the corner.
Although the opposition showed a lot of fight, they were no match for Logie who was unstoppable on Sunday afternoon. On 80 minutes she was played through by Saunders and showed great composure to flick the ball around Butt and into the bottom corner.
An amazing performance from Logie finally put the away team down and gave Brentford all three points in an action-packed game.
