A team of Brentford fans did the club proud at the recent WorldNET Veterans competition held in Leeds over the weekend 16 and 17 July as they reached the Quarter-Finals of the national vets competition. WorldNET is a competition open to supporters teams from all around the country, the minimum age for players is 35 although each team is allowed two underage players.
The tournament, with each game lasting 30 minutes, follows the usual competition format: teams drawn into groups, with each team playing each other on the Saturday before progressing to the knock out phase on Sunday.
Having been drawn in a particularly difficult group alongside Southampton, Exeter City, Bradford City, and Everton, the latter two teams being the eventual finalists, Brentford qualified for the quarter finals against Ipswich Town. In the knock out stage the Bees lost 2-1, the Tractor Boys getting their winner with almost the last kick of the game. Brentford’s goal came from Tyler Williams.
The tournament itself was won Everton who beat Bradford City 1-0 in the final.
