Brentford FC representative team, from Elthorne Park High School, travelled to Reading to take part in the Southern Regional Final of the Kinder+Sport Football League Girls Cup.
This tournament comprised of four teams; Brentford, Southend United, Colchester United and Cardiff City, each are champions of their region.
Brentford began by playing Colchester, and within a minute fell behind, not the greatest start to the tournament, but this rallied the girls and they created many chances but the Colchester keeper was playing outstandingly.
And it was a blocked clearance by Rhiannon that levelled the game which ended 1-1.
Next game was against Southend, this game Brentford came out of the traps quicker and were soon 1-0 up, this spurred Southend on, scoring quickly from the restart.
Brentford responded in kind to make it 2-1.
Brentford scored another two but a good fight back from Southend with 2 quick goals made it 4-3 and it took a great save from Brentford keeper Holly to end the game this way.
Next game was against a big, physical team from Cardiff.
Brentford Captain Demi dominated from start to finish of this game ensuring any threat Cardiff posed was quickly thwarted.
Goals from Rhiannon and Rihanna gave Brentford a 2-0 win.
Then came the repeat fixtures, firstly Brentford v Colchester.
Brentford were buoyed from their last win against Cardiff but Colchester put on a much better performance than the first game and deserved their 1-0 win.
Brentford were upset with their performance against Colchester and made amends dismantling Southend 4-0.
Kianna worked really hard and goals came from Heba, Nicole, Alex and Rhiannon.
This meant that a draw v Cardiff would see Brentford into the final!
Cardiff could still qualify with a win!
It was that incentive that saw Cardiff take the game to Brentford and score early, Brentford huffed and puffed but struggled to make any real chances.
With Two minutes left on the clock Alex won the ball and scored a good goal to make it 1-1.
Brentford were defending with everything they had then Rhiannon scored a goal on the counter attack to seal the victory and put Brentford into the final.
The final was against Colchester United the only team Brentford hadn't beaten (drew one, lost one).
This didn't deter Brentford who played outstandingly; they saved their best performance until last.
Holly making good saves when called upon, Demi and Alex strong at the back, Nicole linking play and defending well and Rihanna and Rhiannon in great form and cameos from Heba and Kianna they won the final 3-1 to book their place in the National Final at Wembley.
The team coach was Brentford FC CST staff member Leigh Begam, who has been coaching the girls over ten weeks as part of the Trust's Female Football Development Programme and has praised their level of commitment to train and prepare for the competitions.
The team will now represent Brentford FC at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, March 22, before the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final, where they will play the Northern winners Hartlepool United.
