Brentford’s Development Squad won a friendly match 4-1 against Gillingham at Jersey Road on Tuesday evening, in weather perhaps more suited to cricket than football.
In front of the entire First Team coaching staff, plus a visiting Peter Taylor, Brentford started strongly.
Despite their dominance, chances were few, with Brentford happy to keep possession and force an opening when the opportunity arose.
They opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a superb direct free-kick from Charlie Adams that the Gillingham goalkeeper could only stand and watch as the ball flew into the net.
The Bees doubled their lead with 36 minutes on the clock.
Alfie Mawson picked up the ball outside the box, with the Gillingham defence backing off, he weaved his way through and slotted home.
At the half time break, Development Squad manager Jon De Souza made several substitutions, including Jack Bonham for Mark Smith in goal.
Brentford killed the game off eight minutes into the second half, Montell Moore with an unstoppable shot inside the box.
Gillingham reduced the arrears with 25 minutes left on the clock before substitute Manny Oyeleke wrapped up the scoring three minutes later.
