On Wednesday 21 December six Brentford B players headed down to Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub to spread some Christmas cheer at a holiday camp run by Brentford Community Sports Trust.
The Trust provide a fantastic opportunity for children to remain active in the school holidays as they take part in multi-sport sessions where they can learn new skills, as well as socialise and benefit from a range of new experiences.
B Team players Max Dickov, Alex Gilbert, Ben Winterbottom, Charlie Farr, Lucias Vine and Roco Rees were on hand to give out some Christmas presents, join in with a sports session, as well as take part in a Q&A with the participants.
B Team Community Visit
The afternoon acted as brilliant opportunity for our young Bees to offer their support to the fantastic work that the Trust carry out within our community. Max Dickov was delighted to lend a hand at the session and feels it’s important that footballers take the opportunity to make a positive impact in the community.
The B Team player said: “We want to spread a little bit of festive cheer, give the kids something to smile about over Christmas and hand out some presents which was really enjoyable.
“I think it’s massively important to do stuff with the community, spreading some cheer especially over the festive period where it can be difficult for some people. We walked in and saw the smiles on their faces, did some of the activities, and had a bit of a giggle and gave out some presents. To them it meant a lot and it did to us as well. It was nice to give back because I think when you’re in this position and you have the opportunity to give back, I think we really should.”
Graham Goodden, who heads up the holiday camps at Gunnersbury Park, was delighted to welcome the B Team players and says their involvement has a huge, positive impact on the young people at the sessions. He explained: “It’s testament to the Club and it comes from the top down. It’s fantastic that they’ve brought some presents and signed their signatures about a million times!
“The interaction with the young people is invaluable. That interaction with a B Team player could be something that makes them think about a career more so in football than what they were dreaming about.”
