Brentford are on the verge of qualifying for last four of the prestgious Milk Cup despite losing to Everton.
Results elsewhere went the way of Brenttford's Under-15 side and it appears The Bees will be in the last four of the Junior competition with Liverpool, Everton and Watford.
There are still games to be played later which can push the Bees into fifth position and the full details will emerge this evening from the tournament in Northern Ireland.
Brentford almost reached the last four without assistance but were unable to complete a remarkable comeback against Everton and lost 3-2 after being 3-0 down.
The defeat was hard justice for The Bees as they matched Everton throughout the game but failed to deal with The Toffees' corners which resulted in all three goals.
James Ferry and Courtney Senior responded but The Bees couldn't find the late equaliser their play deserved.
Brentford started the game brightly with Senior looking particularly impressive.
The striker had the awareness to charge down an Everton clearance but keeper saved low at his feet.
Two minutes later Senior was in the thick of the action again when he drove his shot over the bar from 25 yards out.
Reece Cole was next to have an effort on goal when the ball dropped to him but his effort sailed over the bar.
The Bees had a big escape with Everton's first effort of the game - a great cross from the right wing was met at the far post and goalkeeper Jordan Carey could only watch on as the ball was headed powerfully against the bar before being cleared.
From the resulting corner the ball fell kindly in the six-yard box and was clinic fired home to give The Toffees the lead.
Brentford responded and Senior's hard work in the box created a chance for Cole, his first time effort stung the hands of the keeper and Tom Field fired the loose ball over the bar.
Brentford fell further behind when they failed to deal with another corner - Carey was under heavy pressure but the ball ended up in the back of the net and the referee and assistant couldn't find any reason to rule the goal out.
The Bees ended the half on top and a Cole free kick was pushed around the post as they sought a way back in to the game.
Disaster struck early in the second half when Everton went three up.
The Bees failed to clear another corner and it was smashed home at the back post despite Herson Rodiguez Alves' efforts.
It was rough justice on Brentford as Everton had failed to open The Bees up from open play.
The Bees found a way back into the game after a great run and cross down the right from Seika Jatta - Ferry timed his run into the box with perfection and fired the ball home.
Senior almost pulled another back when his low shot towards the far post was just pushed wide of the goal.
With 13 minutes remaining The Bees were given real hope as a deep free kick by Cole was launched into the box, Jatta rose highest to head on, the Everton keeper came for the ball but he was too slow to react to an acrobatic kick by Senior which nestled into the far corner of the net.
Field nearly pulled off the great escape when his trickery bamboozled the Everton defence - he fired a shot towards the far corner of the net which had the keeper beaten but not the last defender.
Danny Buck was pleased with the character his side showed despite the defeat.
"We started the game well creating good chances and were in good possession of the ball," said the Under-15 Head Coach.
"Unfortunately we conceded from two corners in quick succession and then another early in the second half.
"From this point we took control of the game and showed great character and ability to respond with two goals.
"Again the boys played to the Brentford philosophy against a well established top academy in Everton and showed that we are able to compete at the top level.
"The boys are in good spirits and we must now wait to see if we qualify for the semi finals of the Milk Cup".
