James Ferry's penalty settled matters in last night's 1-0 victory over Black Rock FC at the 2014 IMG Boys Invitational Cup.
The 17-year-old calmly stroked home from the spot after Courtney Senior had been tripped inside the box.
The Bees were good value for their win and could have added to it but Senior saw his shot brilliantly saved and Bradley Clayton had strong claims for a penalty turned down as he tumbled in the box.
Following yesterday's 3-0 defeat to Stevenage The Bees knew they had to win to keep their qualification hopes alive and the victory over Black Rock moves them level with Borough on three points after the Hertfordshire side were beaten 1-0 by hosts IMG Academy earlier on Thursday.
All three sides have three points although IMG have a game in hand, which is against Black Rock later this evening.
With the decision between teams on the same number of points coming down to head-to-head records everything will come down to tomorrow's final matches.
Regardless of tonight's result between Black Rock and the IMG Academy Jon De Souza's side will still need a win against the hosts to stand a chance of making Sunday's final.
Should IMG beat Black Rock this evening and then Brentford beat IMG on Saturday The Bees would top the group so long as Stevenage did not beat Black Rock on Saturday.
A Stevenage win over Black Rock, coupled with the above results, would leave all three of Brentford, IMG and Stevenage on six points and other methods of determining league winner would be needed - most likely goal difference.
