Andreas Bjelland said he signed for Brentford as he wanted to be part of the project to get the Club in to the Premier League.
The 26-year-old Danish international signed a three-year contract to join The Bees from FC Twente earlier this week.
Andreas has won 21 caps for Denmark and has played three of their five qualifying matches for the 2016 UEFA European Championships.
He played for Denmark against England at Wembley last year and played four qualifiers as the Danes missed out on the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
He has also represented his country at Under-16, Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level, playing in the 2011 UEFA European Championships.
Andreas captained Twente last season when they reached the semi-final of the Dutch Cup and helped them to a third-place finish in 2013/14.
He said he had to think about which club to join when he decided to leave Twente but was excited by Brentford’s plans for the future.
“This is an interesting project,” said the defender, speaking to Bees PlayerHD.
“I wanted to be a part of it.
“I want to be part of a big season next season and the Club wants to get in to the Premier League, I want to be part of that.
“I want to help the team and hopefully be in the Premier League next year.
“I am in the national team so I have thoughts about where to go.
“I heard their plans for me and the plans for the Club for the future and what they want to do over the next couple of years, it got me going.”
Andreas signed his contract at Griffin Park earlier this week and said he was looking forward to seeing it full.
“I came here a couple of weeks ago to look at everything and talk to the guys around the Club,” he said.
“The stadium is something else, I spoke to some of the Danish guys who have played in England and they said the atmosphere is unbelievable.
“I am looking forward to playing here when it is full.”
Andreas said he spoke to Owner Matthew Benham, Co-Directors of Football Rasmus Ankersen and Phil Giles and Head Coach Marinus Dijkhuizen before signing.
He said he knew his role and the Club’s philosophy and was pleased with what was presented.
He described himself as a defender that liked to play football but who could battle if needed.
“You want to know about the philosophy, the goals for next season and the season after that,” explained Andreas.
“If you sign for three years you want to know your role.
“It has been good to talk to the owner, the Directors of Football and the Head Coach, he has a Dutch philosophy as well.
“They all want to play good football.
“I am a central defender, left footed and like to play football.
“I enjoy the game but I will take on the duels and take out the man if I need to, that is part of the game.
“I expect that will happen a lot in England.”
Pre-season training has started and Andreas will link up with the squad on Monday, 6 July, for the training camp in Portugal.
He said he wanted to play in England and hoped to reach the Premier League with Brentford.
“I have watched some games, the Championship looks high tempo with a lot of duels,” said Andreas.
“There are a lot of games, in the league and in the cup as well.
“The Dutch league is more pretty, this is tough and I need to develop.
“I see England as the best place to play.
“The best players in the world play in England.
“I want to play in the Premier League with Brentford.”
