Sky Bet, the title sponsor of The Football League, is launching the #BidToRemember auction, giving Championship fans the chance to bid for match-worn shirts, signed by their favourite players.
To launch the #BidToRemember campaign, Sky Bet and The Royal British Legion asked players from Derby County and Wolverhampton Wanderers to reflect on those who serve their country, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our liberty.
Derby manager Steve McClaren and Wolves boss Kenny Jackett took part in the shoot, reading Anne Starr’s poem Why Do I Wear A Poppy.
The full video was broadcast on the Sky Sports coverage before the game between the two clubs today, Saturday November 8, and is available to view here now:
Signed Poppy Shirts from each of the 24 Sky Bet Championship clubs are available to bid on in the #BidToRemember auction.
All proceeds will go directly to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, which supports the whole Armed Forces community, through welfare, comradeship and representation.
Sky Bet Head of Sponsorship Edwin Martin said: “Sky Bet would like to thank Derby County, Wolverhampton Wanderers, all of the players and the two managers that helped to launch the #BidToRemember campaign.
“It is important for us to recongise those that servicemen and women who put their lives on the line for this country and we feel that the video is a powerful reminder of the sacrifice they make.”
Derby manager McClaren said: “It was a pleasure to take part in the filming of this video and the least we could do as a club to support such a worthwhile cause.
“We will again be donating match-worn shirts from the Wolves game to The Poppy Appeal this year, and I urge you to get involved and place a bid.”
Wolves boss Jackett said: “As a club, Wolves are always fully behind The Royal British Legion and their campaigns.
“I was only too happy to be part of Sky Bet’s campaign and proud to display my poppy for the cause.”
All lots will be going live on Sky Bet’s eBay shop between Saturday November 8 and Monday November 10.
