Two historic items have been purchased by Brentford Football Club and are now on display in the Board Room at Griffin Park.
The Club became aware in the summer that former Captain Jamie Bates – who played 524 games for Brentford between 1986 and 1999 – was selling some of his memorabilia.
Jamie – who is second on the Club’s all-time appearance list and third on the list of Football League appearances with 419 – was selling medals and shirts among other items.
The Club purchased, at auction, Jamie’s 1998/99 Football League Third Division Championship medal and the shirt worn in the 1997 Football League Division Two Play-Off Final.
The black and white shirt, worn when The Bees lost to Crewe Alexandra, has been signed by Jamie’s team mates and is framed and on the wall in the Board Room.
The medal is safely stored in the Club’s trophy cabinet.
Mark Devlin, Brentford FC Chief Executive, said: “These are items that help to tell the story of Brentford FC and we were delighted to acquire them.
“Very rarely are items like this available and I felt we owed it to our supporters to ensure they were in safe hands.
“They now form part of the Club’s protected memorabilia and we will look after them so future generations of Brentford fans can see them.”
