Bradley Clayton's double continued Brentford's perfect start to the Under-18 Professional Development League Two South season after a 4-1 win away at Barnsley.
The striker reacted quickest to poke home after six minutes, a lead which was cancelled out just before the half-hour as Matty Templeton headed home unmarked from five yards.
The game looked to be heading for a draw after an uninspiring opening half-hour of the second-half but The Bees struck three times in the final 18 minutes to avenge last season's 3-1 defeat.
Firstly Seika Jatta's low shot crept in off the post before Clayton grabbed his second after intercepting a poor Danny Rusling pass and Courtney Austin settled things late on with a composed finish after Clayton had played him in one-on-one.
Jeremy Steele made four changes from the win over Millwall with Chris Mepham starting at centre-back while there were also starts for Kyjuon Marsh-Brown, Tony Guppy and Jatta.
On a carpet of a pitch at the Oakwell Training Centre it was The Bees who started the game on the front foot.
With the midfield three of Zain Westbrooke, Reece Cole and Guppy dominating the centre of the pitch Brentford were able to spend most of the early stages camped in the Barnsley half.
Westbrooke fired an early shot wide but it wasn’t long before The Bees did find the back of the net as a short corner landed at the feet of Mepham and his deflected shot was turned home by Clayton from five yards.
Templeton's weak shot was no trouble for Nik Tzanev before Cole's free-kick was well held by Rusling in the home goal.
Cole was only to last another two minutes before he was forced off through injury and the tactical switch that followed the substitution allowed the hosts a foothold in the game.
With Brentford going from a 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2 after Cole's withdrawl Barnsley were able to outnumber Jeremy Steele's side in the centre of midfield stopping Brentford's early monopoly on possession.
Jack Alton's low shot was well saved by Tzanev but there was nothing Brentford's keeper could do just before the half-hour as Templeton arrived unmarked to glance home Liam Reilly's inviting cross.
Brentford almost retook the lead instantly as Tom Field whipped a left-footed free-kick inches wide of Rusling's far post after Marsh-Brown had been tripped on the edge of the area.
Clayton couldn't get the required power on his hook shot and Guppy shot wide from 25 yards before Barnsley had a golden chance to go into the break in front.
Brentford's defence backed off Templeton on half-way allowing him the time to turn and play in Alton who rounded Tzanev but then saw his shot into an open goal from 20 yards chased down and hacked off the line by Seth Owens.
There was still time for Brentford to somehow not go in ahead as Courtney Senior scuffed his shot before Austin had a shot blocked and Jatta's shot deflected behind for a corner in a mad final 10 seconds of the half.
The opening stages of the second-half became a very cagey affair with neither side able to retain possession or fashion any clear cut chances.
Field saw a deflected shot loop into the arms of Rusling and Westbrooke shot wide while for the home side Mason Holgate fired a long-range free-kick over the bar.
It took until nearly 30 minutes into the second-half for either side to create a real chance but when the chance did come it saw Brentford retake the lead.
Jatta forced his way into the box and teased his defence before squeezing his low shot past Rusling and into the bottom corner via the base of the post.
Much like in the win over Millwall seven days ago the goal settled Brentford and saw them get back into their passing rhythm.
Barnsley went chasing the game but couldn't get the ball off Brentford as they popped passes around the midfield and pull The Tykes across the pitch.
Louis Rowe sliced a wild shot high and wide with five minutes to go before Clayton put the game to bed, intercepting Rusling's poor pass, holding off the challenge of Bailey Godoa and sliding the ball under Rusling and into the back of the net.
Tzanev needed to be alert to block away Holgate's shot from a tight angle while Clayton brought a low save out of Rusling as he went looking for his hat-trick.
Clayton played a huge part in The Bees fourth as he held the ball up well before releasing Austin through one-on-one and the tall striker waited for Rusling to commit before rolling the ball past him to complete the emphatic victory.
