Brentford B captain Zain Westbrooke has put pen to paper on a new one-year contract with the club. The 20-year-old midfielder signed his first professional contract in June 2015 and today, Friday 17 February agreed a new deal with The Bees to run through until the summer of 2018.

Zain has been with the club since 2011, signing his scholarship forms in the summer of 2013. He was an almost ever-present in the heart of the Under-18s midfield during his two-year scholarship, making 50 appearances and scoring four goals, and made his Under-21s debut as a 17-year-old.

This season, Zain has made 29 appearances for The B Team, scoring four goals. He scored twice as he led The Bees to the Kai Thor Cup in Denmark, including in the 3-1 win over Brann Bergen in the final. His other goals this season coming against West Bromwich Albion Under-23s and Reading Under-23s.

Head of Football Operations Rob Rowan said: “Zain has had a very good eight months with the B Team as the captain and a leader of the team on and off the pitch. This contract provides him with another twelve months of opportunities to become a Brentford First Team Player. It is so important that he embraces the opportunity, fully commits himself to football, and takes ownership of his career.

“The Technical Staff and I have no doubts that he has what it takes from a technical perspective but Zain needs to improve in all the others areas required to be a First Team player at Brentford. This is something that the staff have been working on with him and that process shall continue.”
