One of the stories to emerge from Brentford's first ever Premier League game continues to attract national interest. The Bees beat Arsenal 2-0 last Friday to kick-off the 2021/22 season. Our new home was full for the first time ever and Brentford fan Woody was one of those in attendance.
Woody has Down Syndrome and a very limited vocabulary. He communicates through sign language and his beaming smile and became a regular in our last years at Griffin Park. We told his story in full on World Down Syndrome Day in 2019 and you can see that here.
Woody was with us at Wembley Stadium when we won promotion to the Premier League and was there on Friday night to watch us beat Arsenal. Head Coach Thomas Frank spotted him in the North Stand after the game as he took the players on their usual post-match walk around the stadium. The two shared a moment that was caught on camera and Woody's day was featured on BBC magazine show Football Focus as his Mum Natalie talked about what attending matches was like. It can be seen here, but only for a few days.
Woody and Natalie have gone on holiday but Sky Sports News had a special treat for them. Working with the Club, a message was arranged for Woody from Thomas. See more below.
