Thomas joined Brentford in December 2016. He was appointed to the role of Assistant Head Coach, working under Dean Smith, and took on his first job outside his native Denmark. Brentford will be recruiting for the Assistant Head Coach role in the coming days with Thomas involved in the selection process alongside Phil Giles and Rasmus Ankersen, the Club’s Co-Directors of Football. Lars Friis, the Club’s Personal Development Coach, will be working with Thomas in the short term.

Thomas takes over a team that have lost just two of 12 Sky Bet Championship games this season and are seventh in the table, a point outside the Play-Off places and only six from the top two. After a spell in youth coaching, Thomas took up a role with the Danish FA in 2008, working with country’s Under-16, Under-17 and Under-19 teams. In 2013 he took up the managerial reins at Brøndby and led them to finishes of fourth and third in his two full seasons at the helm before leaving in March 2016. He arrived in West London at the end of that year.

Phil Giles said: “Ras and I have used Dean’s departure as a chance to pause and review what we need to add to the coaching staff to keep moving forward. We feel the Club is in a good place and we don’t think it is time for big changes. Promoting Thomas to Head Coach ensures that we can keep building on the foundations that are already in place and working."

Rasmus added: "Thomas knows the Club’s strategy inside out and he is both respected and supported by players and staff at the Training Ground. He has played a major role in the development of our style of play over the past couple of years and we believe he is ready for the job as Head Coach."
