Brentford FC can confirm that attacker Sergi Canós has suffered a serious knee-injury. The 22-year-old picked up the injury in the later stages of the game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday and will shortly begin a significant period of recovery and rehabilitation before he can play again. As he began his recovery, Sergi signed a new contract and will be working towards playing again as soon as possible.

Sergi, who committed his future to the Club when signing a four-year contract this week, has been with Brentford since January 2017. This is his second spell with The Bees after spending the 2015/16 season on loan at Griffin Park. In more than four years in West London, on and off, he has played 149 games for Brentford and scored 23 goals.

Thomas Frank, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: “The injury is extremely sad news for Sergi, but I know he will have a bright future at Brentford FC and that is why we have signed him to a new contract. Injuries are the worst thing for a player and long-term ones are tough but Sergi is strong, he has a great family support network and a superb group of staff looking after him here.

“I know everyone at the Club will be doing everything they can to get him back as soon as he is ready and able. This is a blow for the team, Sergi has been one of our most important players this season. We will miss him, but this will be a chance for someone else to come in and step up for us.”
