Brentford B midfield player Roy Syla made his debut for Albania Under-21 last night in a narrow defeat. Roy was part of the Albania team playing in a UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying match against Czech Republic last night. He came on as a second half substitute as Albania were beaten 1-0.

Albania are in Group G of the qualifiers for the 2023 tournament, which is being held in Georgia and Romania next summer. The defeat to Czech Republic was as a result of a first half own goal from Albania’s Sergio Kalaj. Roy came on for the final eight minutes but could not prevent the loss. The Czech team included for Brentford midfield player Jan Žambůrek.

Czech Republic lead Group G with 16 points from seven games. England are second with 13 points from five games. Albania face England at home on Tuesday night. Roy, 21, has played for Albania at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-20 and will look to add to his one Under-21 cap next week.

Brentford B defender Fin Stevens was also in Under-21 international action last night, and also had a difficult evening. Fin was in the Wales Under-21 side beaten 5-1 in Switzerland. They were 3-0 down at half time and a goal just after the break was only brief respite as Switzerland added two more. Wales’ goal was scored by former Brentford B attacker Joe Adams while another former Bee, Nathan Shepperd, was in goal for them.

Fin played the full 90 minutes in the match and earned his sixth Under-21 cap, five of which have come in this qualifying tournament. Wales are in Group E but look set to miss out on the tournament. Switzerland lead the way with 19 points from seven games while The Netherlands are second with 14 points from six games. Wales have seven points from seven games but do play their last three matches at home. The first of those is against Bulgaria on Tuesday.
