The young Bees came up against a vastly experienced Pafos side with the likes of former Premier League player Jason Puncheon often dictating things from midfield for the Cypriot team.

It was a difficult first half for Brentford B as they conceded four goals but their heads certainly didn’t drop as they put in a battling second half display.

The home team began quickly in sweltering conditions in Cyprus. Puncheon had a chance of his own on eight minutes but he fired just over from the edge of the box.

On 14 minutes Pafos took the lead through Franko Kovasevic after he managed to cut in from the right, and to his credit, he sent a stinging shot past Ben Winterbottom in the Brentford goal. An intense first half then saw the Cypriot side double their advantage when the ball was squared to Douglas Aurelio and he swept home with precision.

Just before the 30-minute mark Pafos had the chance to make it 3-0 when they broke, and as the forward managed to dart past Ben Winterbottom, he fouled him whilst trying to claim the ball and the referee pointed to the spot. Kovasevic then stepped up to convert with calmness.

The Bees were then forced into an early change as Jude Russell limped off before Pafos made it 4-0 through Khabib Abdusalamov. Brentford then had a chance to pull a goal back just before the break when Young-Coombes was fouled in the box. The striker stepped up to take the spot kick but his thumping effort was well saved going into the break.

Disappointed with how the first half went, the side came back out after the interval with a determination to do themselves proud and battle back into the game. An early chance fell when Young-Coombes threaded a ball forward for Ryan Trevitt to slide an effort wide of goal first time.

The side began to see more of the ball and afforded Pafos little throughout the second half. A good chance came when the high press caught the Cypriot side out before the ball found Dom Jefferies, who shot well, but he was pulled back for straying just offside.

Brentford B got on the scoresheet 20 minutes from time when Young-Coombes had another chance to score from the spot. This time, he managed to convert as the side deservedly got one back to make it 4-1. With all of the pressing and hard work to find another the side were caught on the counter a few minutes from time as Kevin Berigaud got on the end of a ball forward before holding off Nico Jones and slotting past Winterbottom. The young Bees will look to dust themselves down and go again as they face Rodina Moscow on Wednesday next week.
