Mads Roerslev has signed a new long-term contract to keep him with Brentford until the summer of 2026.

The 23-year-old initially joined Brentford B in August 2019 but quickly went onto establish himself as a member of Thomas Frank’s first-team squad.

Roerslev has made the most first-team appearances of any Brentford B graduate, with Saturday’s start against Arsenal his 79th game for the Bees since his debut in a Championship fixture at Blackburn Rovers in November 2019.

Speaking about Roerslev’s new contract, Brentford head coach Thomas Frank said: “Mads hugely deserves this new contract. We’ve all been on an incredible journey and Mads is a prime example of that journey.

“He came into the B-team programme at first and then just progressively played more and more, including during our promotion campaign, and has now made the step up to the Premier League.

“He keeps impressing us in many areas. Defensively, he is very strong one-v-one, defending the box and defending crosses, and offensively he is always coming forward.

“Like every other player, there are areas where he can improve, but he deserves a lot of credit. We are looking forward to continuing the journey with him.”

The Long Read - Mads Roerslev: A Great Brentford Story

35 of Roerslev’s appearances for Brentford have come in the Premier League.

He played 21 times during the Bees’ maiden season back in the top flight, scoring his only senior goal thus far to secure all three points at home to Aston Villa last January.

He has made a further 14 Premier League outings so far this term, starting in Brentford’s victories over Manchester United, Manchester City, West Ham United and Liverpool.

The former Denmark youth international also played a key part in helping Frank’s side to the Premier League.

Having missed the first half of the 2020/21 season through injury, the former FC Copenhagen youngster featured 20 times during the run-in, memorably teeing up Emiliano Marcondes for the second goal in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off final victory over Swansea City at Wembley Stadium.

At international level, Roerslev earned 37 youth caps for Denmark, playing at every level between under-17 and under-21.

In May 2022, the right-back was called into the senior team's training camp for the first time in preparation for the Danes’ 2022/23 UEFA Nations League A campaign.
