Kevin O’Connor will take over as Brentford Development Squad Head Coach for the rest of the season following Lee Carsley’s promotion to the Head Coach at First Team level.

Brentford FC announced yesterday, Monday 28 September, that Lee Carsley would take the role as Head Coach for the rest of the 2015/16 season. Lee has been Development Squad Manager for just under a year and has been assisted for the past three months by Kevin O’Connor. With Lee stepping up, Kevin will take the leadership role in the Under-21 group.

Kevin became Lee’s assistant in the summer when he announced his retirement. He had held a Player/Coach role for 12 months and brought a wealth of experience to the job.

Kevin signed professional terms with Brentford in 1999 after progressing through the Club’s youth system and in the following 16 years made a total of 501 appearances for The Bees, 420 of them in the Football League, and scored 44 goals, 32 of them in the league. He is fourth on the Club’s all-time appearance list and earlier this year became the first person to be inducted in to the Brentford FC Hall of Fame while still at Griffin Park.

Brentford’s Development Squad play Sheffield Wednesday away from home today, Tuesday 29 September, in the Under-21 Professional Development League. They have two home games to follow in the next two weeks.
