Brentford’s Frank Onyeka and Yoane Wissa have been selected by Nigeria and DR Congo respectively for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

The 2023 AFCON begins on 13 January in Ivory Coast after being moved back to avoid the rainy season in West Africa. The final is set for 11 February. Senegal will defend the title which they won in Cameroon in February 2022.

Onyeka’s Nigeria face Equatorial Guinea (14 January), hosts Ivory Coast (18 January) and Guinea-Bissau (22 January) in Group A.

In Group F, two-time AFCON winners DR Congo play Zambia on 17 January, Morocco on 21 January and Tanzania on 24 January.

Speaking for an upcoming Long Read, Onyeka – who scored his first international against Mozambique in October – insisted that the objective for Nigeria is clear.

"We want to win it,” he said. “We have such a good team, such a good squad, so we are going there to win it. That’s the ambition for the players, the coach and the federation. Let’s go there and win it.”
