Brentford goalkeeper Patrik Gunnarsson has been named in the Iceland squad for two upcoming friendly internationals. The 19-year-old, who signed a long-term contract in the summer, could make his full international debut as Iceland fly to the United States of America today, Saturday 11 January. They face Canada on Wednesday, 15 January, and then El Salvador next Sunday, 19 January, in friendly games and Patrik is one of three goalkeepers in a 23-man squad.

Patrik has been first choice for Iceland Under-21 over the past season. He made his debut at that level last season and has now won seven caps at that level. Patrik has helped Iceland to three wins in five qualification games for the UEFA European Under-21 Championships, which take place in Hungary and Slovenia next summer.

Patrik has been part of the national set-up for the past few years and represented his country at Under-17 level when he was just 15. He was called up to train with the full national squad last summer and has now received a first call-up at the top level for the games, which fall outside the usual FIFA international calendar. Patrik has played 21 games for Iceland at all levels and will hope to add to that this week.
