- John Egan was born on 20 October 1992, in Cork.

- He has signed a three-year deal at Griffin Park to take him through to the end of the 2018/19 season.

- The defender graduate from Sunderland’s academy in 2011 but didn’t make a First Team appearance for The Black Cats.

- Crystal Palace gave John his professional debut as he appeared in a 1-0 defeat to Derby County in the FA Cup in January 2012. During his short loan spell, he also made his Championship debut.

- Two months later he was loaned to Sheffield United, making one appearance for The Blades in League One.

- John joined Bradford City in November 2012 and made four appearances for The Bantams in League Two.

- He spent the second half of the 2013/14 season on loan at Southend United, where he first played with fellow new signing Daniel Bentley.

- Bentley and Egan made a total of 15 appearances together for The Shrimpers, including both legs of the 2014 League Two Play-Off Semi-Final, a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Burton Albion.

- John scored his first professional goal on Tuesday 11 March 2014, in a 2-2 draw with Scunthorpe United.

- After four years on the books at Sunderland, he joined Gilingham permanently in July 2014 on a two-year deal.

- The 2014/15 season saw John play 52 times for his new side, adding five goals in the process and was awarded Player of the Year by Gillingham after his debut season.

- Last season John made 40 appearances, scoring six goals as The Gills finished ninth in League One. His performances saw him named in the PFA League One Team of the Season alongside Romaine Sawyers.

- The Bees’ second recruit of the summer has scored 11 goals in his career so far, making 99 league appearances overall.

- Internationally, John has represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level but has yet to receive a call-up to the senior side.
