Brentford have teamed up with Fantasy Football Scout to help bring you hints, tips and advice during the 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season.
Scout will be using their expertise to provide info, advice and Gameweek tips which may prove useful in ensuring you sit on top of your mini-leagues.
Best of the Bees
Before the international break, Thomas Frank’s side were impressive in a 3-1 win against Southampton. No team recorded more big chances than their half-dozen and only Manchester City bettered the 2.78 expected goals (xG) tally.
Mikkel Damsgaard (£5.0m) looked particularly lively, creating three chances for team-mates and shooting twice inside the penalty area. One close-range attempt was thwarted by goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale (£4.4m), suggesting that - although the Dane is yet to register an attacking return this season - his first shouldn’t be too far away.
Shortly after being singled out in the last FPL preview, Nathan Collins (£4.5m) picked up another assist. This time, the centre-back flicked his head onto a long throw, allowing the lively Yoane Wissa (£6.1m) to pounce at the back post.
The Spotlight
Meanwhile, midfielder Kevin Schade (£5.5m) secured a Fantasy assist when his shot hit the post but Bryan Mbeumo (£7.1m) was around for the rebound.
The Cameroon international bagged a brace, as a Saints defensive mistake allowed Mathias Jensen (£5.5m) to play a simple pass towards his first-time finish. These 14 points ended amongst the highest overall Gameweek 3 scores and it could’ve been more, as Mbeumo set up Damsgaard’s big opportunity.
With last season’s strong start still in the mind of FPL managers, over 275,000 have already bought Mbeumo ahead of Gameweek 4, leading to a £0.1 price rise. He is the most transferred-in Brentford player ahead of the deadline.
Some managers may be waiting until Gameweek 6 to invest in Mbeumo - however that might mean missing out on returns. Brentford and Mbuemo have, on paper, difficult trips to Manchester City and Tottenham in Gameweeks 4 and 5. However, Mbeumo and Brentford have a good recent record against Spurs.
Brentford have at least two goals in each of their last four clashes against the north Londoners, and Mbeumo’s last couple of clashes with them have seen him score three goals and provide an assist. Furthermore, he took - and scored - all three of the Bees’ penalties in 2023/24, adding some fixture-proof potential to his weaponry.
Best of the rest
The only clean sheet of Gameweek 3 took place in its final match, bringing points for popular Liverpool assets Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.0m), Virgil van Dijk (£6.0m) and Alisson (£5.5m).
Further up the Old Trafford pitch saw hauls for Luis Díaz (£7.6m) and Mohamed Salah (£12.7m), allowing owners to be optimistic of more during consecutive home matches versus Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth.
Bukayo Saka (£10.1m) is yet to blank and Cole Palmer (£10.6m) followed a trio of Gameweek 2 assists by setting up Nicolas Jackson (£7.6m) versus Crystal Palace.
Yet Eberechi Eze (£6.9m) equalised, finally getting off the mark for 2024/25 and rewarding those who kept faith. He’s on this season’s second-most goal attempts (15) and is about to face Leicester.
In Demand
Also being chased are Brighton attackers, as they host Ipswich and then Nottingham Forest. In particular, budget forward João Pedro (£5.7m). Form and fixtures should ensure he passes one million buys for this round.
The next most bought is Díaz, used as an alternate or additional way to deal with Salah’s appealing run.
Elsewhere, Alexander Isak (£8.5m) is currently the week’s most-sold but he struck last time and has just netted some for Sweden. Goalless Ollie Watkins (£8.98m) still hasn’t lasted beyond 65 minutes.
Captaincy
Getting this far without mentioning Erling Haaland (£15.2m) is quite the achievement. He’s on successive hat-tricks, making it tough to stop recommending him for the armband.
Then again, Salah joins him on 41 points, far ahead of everyone else. The Egyptian has registered double-digit scores in all three matches and could be preferred on this occasion.
Interesting maverick options include Eze, João Pedro and Díaz.
