Yunus Emre Konak has signed a new five-year contract with Brentford, with a club option of a further year.
The 20-year-old midfielder has also joined Sky Bet Championship side Lincoln City on loan for the duration of the 2026/27 season.
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews said: “I like Yunus a lot. I’ve seen his development at close quarters, even going back to when I was set-piece coach.
“I really like him as a young man. He came over here not speaking much English, and he’s a really popular member of the squad because he’s all in on Brentford.
“I have a lot of time for him. I’m delighted to get him tied down long term to allow him to go out and continue his development.
“It is really important that Yunus continues his development by playing first-team football in an environment that we think will be good for him and beneficial for his game.
“We really saw the benefits of him going out and playing regularly for Oxford last season. The easiest thing would be to keep him in and around our squad but, for him, it’s important that he goes and takes the next step in his development.
“He’s had a really good pre-season and you can see the development in his game. The fact that he’s played men’s football is very evident.
“He looks in a good place and I’m very confident he can have a good season there.”
Brentford director of football Phil Giles said: “Yunus has earned his new contract based on his performance over the last 12 months.
“He had a very good loan at Oxford where he played well, so we are looking for him to build on that this season with Lincoln, who were very keen for him to join them for the season.
“By signing the contract before he completes the loan move, it demonstrates that we see him as a player who can play regularly for Brentford in the future, which is what we’re all working towards.”
Konak joined Brentford from Turkish Süper Lig side Sivasspor in January 2024.
The midfielder made his professional debut for Sivasspor at the age of 17 in August 2023 and started each of the club’s next 16 league games.
His performances earned recognition later that year when he was included in The Guardian’s list of the best young players in world football born in 2006.
Konak’s first-team debut for Brentford was delayed by injury, although he was named in the matchday squad for the final game of the 2023/24 Premier League season against Newcastle United.
He made his competitive Bees debut as a late substitute in a 1-0 Carabao Cup win at Colchester United in August 2024, before making his Premier League bow away at Tottenham Hotspur the following month.
Konak went on to make 14 appearances for Brentford before joining Championship side Oxford United on loan in January 2026.
He made his Oxford debut in a goalless draw with Bristol City and featured 16 times during his spell at Kassam Stadium.
The Turkey youth international will now continue his development with Lincoln, who won the Sky Bet League One title last season to secure promotion to the Championship.
Konak on new deal and Lincoln loan
Yunus Emre Konak shared his thoughts after signing a fresh five-year contract with Brentford and joining Lincoln on loan.
“I am very happy to sign a new contract with Brentford,” said the midfielder. “I am really grateful to the club for the trust and belief they are showing me.
“I know I still have a lot to learn and improve on, and I am really excited to keep working hard and developing.
“After my time at Oxford last season, I am really looking forward to this new challenge at Lincoln.
“I want to play as much as I can, keep improving every day, and do my best to help the team have a successful season.”
