Brentford head coach Keith Andrews has shared his thoughts after midfielder Vitaly Janelt was called up to the senior Germany squad for the first time.

Janelt, 28, is one of two Bees players selected by Jürgen Klopp for the upcoming international break alongside in-form forward Kevin Schade.

Having scored twice inside the opening four Premier League matches, Janelt could make his senior international debut when Germany face Serbia at home and Greece away in the UEFA Nations League at the start of October.

“He’s been excellent since I’ve been at the club and since I took over as head coach,” said Andrews.

“I’ve just loved working with him and was very keen to get his new contract nailed down, I think that was a really important bit of business by the club.

“His value to me, the dressing room and the culture of the club is huge, and he absolutely deserves it.

“The levels that he’s produced at this level - in the toughest league in the world - have been pretty remarkable.

“For Vitaly, it’s a really poignant moment in his career. He’s been exceptional, so to say I’m happy for him would be an understatement.”

Schade, who has five senior caps to date, has been called up for Germany's first two fixtures of the break, which see them travel to the Netherlands before hosting Greece.

“It’s another amazing story for the club to have two players named in the Germany squad,” Andrews continued.

“One thing you always get with Kev is a consistency with his work ethic. Kev has been working really hard with the coaches to improve certain aspects of his game, and you’ve seen that in the early parts of the season with how well he’s been performing.

“He’s got a lot of belief and confidence at the moment, as you’re seeing in his performances, and we’ve always had a lot of belief and confidence in him.

“He’s in a really good place at the moment, and hopefully we can keep him there.”
