Brentford defender Rico Henry has suffered a significant knee injury.

Henry was withdrawn in the 42nd minute of the Bees’ 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday having gone down awkwardly after a battle for possession with Kieran Trippier.

“Rico will require surgery in the next week or so and, unfortunately, a prolonged period of recovery,” said head of medical Neil Greig.

“Whilst this is disappointing, Rico has been through a similar experience in the past and is already focussed on using this as an opportunity to become fitter and stronger than before. We will support him fully throughout this process.”

Henry is Brentford’s longest-serving player. The left-back has only missed five Premier League matches since August 2021, registering three goals and three assists.
