Paris Maghoma has joined Sky Bet League One side Bolton Wanderers on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old links up with his new team-mates ahead of Bolton’s League One curtain-raiser against Lincoln City on Saturday 5 August.

The Trotters won the Football League Trophy last term and were edged out of the end-of-season play-offs by Barnsley, having finished fifth in the table.

“This is an excellent opportunity for Paris to go and play for an ambitious club,” said Brentford director of football Phil Giles.

“He had lots of first-team exposure with AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons last season, and we are excited to track his progress with a side that challenged for promotion to the Championship last season and will probably hope to do so again.”

Maghoma spent the first half of the 2022/23 campaign with AFC Wimbledon. He played 24 games for the Dons during his loan spell, which included 18 appearances in League Two.

The midfielder was then loaned to MK Dons in January and made 20 appearances in League One. He scored his first senior goal against Lincoln in February.

An England youth international, Maghoma joined the Bees in January 2020 from Tottenham Hotspur.

He was initially in the Brentford B squad but his first months with the Bees were interrupted by the Covid-19 outbreak and injuries.

He signed a new long-term contract at the start of 2022 and has been named in four first-team matchday squads during his time with Brentford.
