Brentford forward Ivan Toney scored a penalty as a Bees XI lost 3-1 to Brøndby in a behind-closed-doors game at Gtech Community Stadium.

A first-half brace from Yuito Suzuki sandwiched a sumptuous Panenka by Toney, after Josh Dasilva was fouled inside the area.

A late strike from Brøndby substitute Noah Nartey sealed the win for the Danish side in west London, as multiple first-team players, including Charlie Goode, Kristoffer Ajer and Ben Mee, got some valuable minutes.

Toney nets from spot but Bees behind at break

Brøndby took the lead after seven minutes, when a ball down the right channel and then a ball across the box to Yuito Suzuki saw the Japanese forward finish from a tight angle and put the away side in the driving seat.

But Brentford equalised just four minutes later, when Josh Dasilva was played in over the top and, as he chopped back onto his left foot, he was brought down and referee Craig Pawson pointed to the spot.

Toney stepped up and chipped the ball down the middle, as the opposition goalkeeper dived to his left, levelling things up at the Gtech.

In an open first half, Ben Mee had a header that went just wide, while Kyreece Lisbie found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper but skewed his effort past the post; at the other end, Suzuki had two more attempts which were both stopped well by Ben Winterbottom.

After winning the penalty Dasilva almost had a goal of his own, as Toney and Lisbie linked up, before the latter played it across to Dasilva, whose effort was cleared off the line.

Toney was involved again soon after when he struck a bouncing ball from 40 yards and, with the keeper just watching as it floated over his head, the centre-forward's effort dropped just wide of the post.

The Suzuki v Winterbottom continued when the Brøndby man had a half-volley of his own from the edge of the box, which was tipped over by the Bees man. But, with 35 minutes on the clock, Suzuki netted his brace as his nimble footwork got him some space inside the area, before he poked home to make it 2-1.

Brøndby secure win with second-half strike

The away side were wondering how they weren't 3-1 ahead just three minutes into the second half, when they twice hit the crossbar.

Mateusz Kowalczyk had his effort crash against the woodwork and bounce back down to Ohi Omoijuanfo, whose header did exactly the same thing, before the hosts were denied a third attempt by the offside flag.

It was a half of few chances but Toney was inches away from equalising as he also hit the crossbar. A gorgeous pass from Conor McManus saw Toney receive the ball at an extremely tight angle, despite this, he managed to lift it over the keeper, but it kissed the crossbar and was headed clear by the defender.

Brøndby substitute Nartey made it 3-1 with just under 10 minutes to go, when he struck an effort from the edge of the box and it nestled into the bottom corner.

Toney played the full 90 minutes in west London and had one final chance to get a brace, but his header was comfortably collected by the visiting goalkeeper.
