Brentford have completed the signing of Austrian defender Jannik Schuster from Red Bull Salzburg, subject to international clearance.

The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a contract until June 2031, with an option of a further year's extension.

The centre-back arrives in west London having established himself in Salzburg’s first team this season, making 29 appearances in all competitions and scoring one goal.

Schuster, an Austria Under-21s international, also featured three times in the Europa League during this campaign, including a notable start at Premier League side Aston Villa.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews said: “I’m really delighted that we were able to get Jannik on board.

“He’s already played a lot of games for Salzburg at a high level. He’s a player with a lot of potential, and we see that as something we can develop.

“I really like him as a young man; he’s determined to maximise his potential. He’s going to fit in well with the first-team squad.”

Born in Hall in Tirol, Austria, Schuster started his youth career with SV Mieming before joining the Red Bull Salzburg Academy in 2020.

He began his professional career with Liefering, Salzburg’s feeder club, during the 2023/24 season and went on to make 39 league appearances, scoring twice.

Schuster made his Red Bull Salzburg debut in a 4-2 Austrian Bundesliga win over Rapid Wien in May 2025, following an impressive term with Liefering and Salzburg’s youth side.

He captained Salzburg Under-19s as they reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Youth League, before becoming a regular part of the senior squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Schuster was part of the squad for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and was named among the substitutes for all three of their Group H fixtures against Pachuca, Al-Hilal and Real Madrid.

He has represented Austria at under-16, under-18, under-19 and under-21 level.
