Brentford’s Turkey international striker Halil Dervişoğlu has joined Burnley on loan.

The 22-year-old completed the move to the Sky Bet Championship side earlier today, Thursday 1 September, ahead of the closure of the Transfer Window. He will spend the season with the Clarets, who are currently third in the Sky Bet Championship.

Halil made his Premier League debut earlier this month, coming on for the later stages of our match at Leicester City. He us recover from 2-0 down to earn a point in our opening match of the campaign. He also played in the Carabao Cup win at Colchester last week.

Phil Giles, Brentford Director of Football, said: “Given the options we have in attacking areas, we thought the best way for Halil to play a lot of competitive football this season was to go out on loan.

“This will be a different challenge to the ones he has faced so far. Burnley will be pushing for promotion and dealing with the relentlessness of the Championship.

“This is a great loan and a great opportunity for Halil. Burnley have made a good start to the season and Halil will be going into a highly pressurised environment. We will be carefully monitoring his progress this season and believe he will make an impact there.”

Halil has spent most of the past two seasons on loan. He spent the first half of the 2020/21 campaign with FC Twente, in the Netherlands, before a move to Galatasaray Spor Kulübü, in Turkey.

Halil spent the second half of 2020/21 with the Istanbul giants and then all last season.

Halil joined us from Sparta Rotterdam at the start of 2020 in a deal that was announced in August 2019. He worked his way through the youth ranks at Sparta, playing for Jong Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch third tier and then moving into the main group, playing in the second tier and helping Sparta win promotion via the Play-Offs.

Halil adapted quickly to Eredivisie football, the Dutch top flight, and contributed five goals and three assists in 17 league outings for Sparta before moving to Brentford.

He has played 12 times for us in all competitions and scored in an Emirates FA Cup win over Middlesbrough.

Halil has progressed to be a key part of Turkey’s full international side. He has scored six times for his country in 13 appearances, which means he holds the Club record for most international goals while on our books.
