Brentford's win over Fulham last week has earned Head Coach Thomas Frank an award. The League Managers Association’s panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Chris Hughton, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, has determined that the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to The Bees for their 2-0 win last Saturday, 20 June, in their first game back after football was suspended due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The experienced and highly distinguished panel, who have managed a combined total of over 6,500 competitive matches in professional football between them, selected Brentford's win as the best of the week.
Brentford scored two goals in the final two minutes to make it two wins out of two against Fulham. The Bees won the top-of-the-table clash 2-0 to restart their Sky Bet Championship season in the best possible way. Three months after the game was postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak, The Bees added to a 1-0 win at Griffin Park with a victory at Craven Cottage and closed the gap on Fulham in the table.
The teams started the game third and fourth in the Championship with The Bees four points behind their hosts. The game befitted two sides pushing for promotion and was relatively even with both teams having spells where they looked the likely winner. But Brentford added impetus with substitutes in the second half and took command. Emiliano Marcondes came on late on and set up the opening goal for Saïd Benrahma before scoring the second himself.
