Brentford defender Charlie Goode has completed a Transfer Deadline Day loan move to Sheffield United. The centre half finalised the switch to the Sky Bet Championship side today, Monday 31 January. He will remain with them for the rest of the season and could make his debut against Birmingham City on Friday, 4 February.

Charlie has missed the last six weeks after picking up an injury in mid-December. He has played eight games for Brentford this season, six of them in the Premier League. Charlie featured in Brentford’s Premier League wins over Everton and Watford, as well as the draws away to Newcastle United and Leeds United.

Phil Giles, Brentford FC Director of Football, said: “Charlie has done very well when he has come into the team this season and last. However, he has not got enough game time in total in the last 18 months, so the best thing he can do is to try to get that elsewhere, ready to return to us in the summer and push on again next season. We wish him and Sheffield United well for the rest of the season.”

Charlie is in his second season at Brentford. He joined The Bees from Northampton Town in August 2020 after captaining The Cobblers to success in the Sky Bet League Two Play-Offs a few weeks earlier. He had played non-league football for clubs including AFC Hayes and Hendon before making his first steps in to professional football with Scunthorpe United, and then Northampton. He played 12 games for The Bees last season, eight in the Sky Bet Championship, but missed much of the campaign with illness.
