Brentford Women B extended their stay at the top of the Greater London Division One South table at the weekend, defeating Actonians Thirds 4-1 at Bedfont and Feltham Social Club.

Fresh from an important win over South London Reserves last time out, the Bees continued this good form against Actonians, with Rems Gardner, Karina Hlek, Kirsty Matthews and Georgia Wood each netting.

Riding the high following the win over South London, Tommy Ryan-Maynard’s side looked to carry this form into Sunday, however they were forced to wait until the half-hour mark to strike.

Marta Boabonay forced a turnover high up the pitch as she pounced on a loose pass from Actonians, with the forward then crossing to Gardner, who made no mistake from close range.

Boabonay had her second assist 10 minutes later, this time for Matthews. After running onto a slick through ball from Liberty Morrice-Bartlett, Boabonay turned and played the ball back to Matthews. The winger took a touch to her right and fired it past the Actonians goalkeeper’s outstretched hands.

In control of the game and with half-time approaching, the Bees added a third soon after. Cruising through midfield, Morrice-Bartlett played a superb long ball through the line to Hlek, who contested the ball strongly with the Actonians goalkeeper, won possession and slotted it home with her left foot to make it 3-0 at half-time.

Out of the break, the west Londoners were forced to wait for their fourth goal but put the game to bed on 64 minutes. Strong build-up play saw Gardner eventually take possession on the right side of the box, and with the defenders’ attention on her, she found an open Wood, who smashed it home.

After defending strongly for 78 minutes, the Bees were eventually undone by a slick Actonians attack. Emma Welch ran onto a well-placed chip pass, beating Brentford goalkeeper Christie Tucker to the ball and finding the back of the net to pull one back.

The win leaves Ryan-Maynard’s side top of the table, eight points clear of South London, who have a game in hand.

The Bees now turn their attention to the Capital Cup, a clash away to South Park Reigate awaiting them on Sunday.
