Brentford Women are bound for the third round of the League Cup following a dominant 7-1 win over Sevenoaks Town at Bedfont Sports Club on Sunday.

Paula Holguin starred with a hat-trick, while Ilana Harris-Walters, Asees Sangha, Renai McCrea and Chelsie Berry each netted once.

The Bees welcomed two new additions to the squad to face Sevenoaks, with Bo Taylor (Fulham) and Rebecca Teale (Lewes) joining the club on dual loans.

The side got off to the best possible start as Harris-Walters found the opener. The winger ran onto a superb Holguin pass and beat Sevenoaks goalkeeper Sophie Pourou to the ball, before finishing well into an empty net.

Alissa Down was close to doubling the lead on 13 minutes as she stepped up to take a free-kick from the edge of the box, but her strike was just wide of the left post.

Carly Williams’ side continued to dominate play as the ball remained in Sevenoaks’ half and were almost rewarded with a second goal. Harris-Walters’ cross into the box fell to Kasha Petit near the penalty area, but her strike cannoned into the bar.

Holguin was in on the action soon after as she returned to the line-up, her strike smothered by Pourou in the box. She was rewarded soon after in a similar situation to double Brentford’s lead, the striker able to find a gap in the congestion in the box and put the ball in the back of the net.

The Bees made it three as the first half entered added time, debutant Rebecca Teale crossing from the right side to Sangha who tapped it home from close range.

Holguin had her brace soon after as Brentford took complete control of the game. The striker ran onto a superb ball from Makeba Black and chipped Pourou, the ball bouncing into an empty net.

Out of the break the Bees again started strongly and Holguin didn’t have to wait long to secure her hat-trick. The striker fought off her defender and protected her space well, putting the ball past Pourou with a brilliant strike.

Soon after it was McCrea’s turn to get in on the action. The winger met the ball on the half-volley off an Ashley Cheatley flick pass near the penalty area and smashed the ball into the roof of the net to make it 6-0.

Berry joined a host of substitutes in coming on at 64 minutes and only had to wait five minutes to score. She met a cross from McCrea and headed it home to give the hosts their seventh.

The visitors continued to fight despite the insurmountable deficit and were rewarded with 10 minutes to play. Ellie George ran onto a superb through ball and sent her shot flying into the bottom of the bar, the ball then bouncing over the goal line to make it 7-1.

Brentford now turn their attention to the league, travelling to face Dartford next weekend.

Williams: To get a win was absolutely key today

Brentford Women head coach Carly Williams reflected on her side's 7-1 win over Sevenoaks Town in the League Cup.

"I think for us, to get a win was absolutely key today. It was an opportunity for us to look at a few different players in a few different places. Really pleased with the win, really convincing win," she said.

"I think we've stayed positive throughout the last two, three weeks. We know that we've had good performances, it's about putting it together and getting that result over the line.

"To go ahead after four minutes today, I can't really ask for anything else."
