A young Brentford team were beaten by the eventual runners-up in a prestigious tournament over the Easter weekend.

An Under-11 side from Brentford’s Academy took part in the 15th edition of the Mediterranean International Cup.

They were entered in the seven-a-side tournament that featured teams including Manchester City, Liverpool, RCD Espanyol, Anji FC plus sides from Japan, Colombia, Norway, Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

The Bees drew 2-2 against CE Sant Gabriel in their first game before beating EF Sant Feliu 9-2 and thrashing PSTC Londrina 24-0 to qualify for the knock-out stages.

They were then unfortunate to lose 4-3 to Valencia CF in the last 16.

Valencia went all the way to the final before losing to Espanyol.

Other tournament winners at different age groups included Malaga, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
